DMC showcase: An immersive Cape Town incentive experience

We’re thrilled to kick off our new DMC creativity case study series, aimed at showcasing how DMCs are working in partnership with agencies to deliver innovative and inspiring luxury event solutions. We might not be able to deliver live events at the moment due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, but we can certainly celebrate and share some of the best case studies and demonstrate the ongoing importance and value of luxury events and incentives.

First up, its inVOYAGER Event Concepts, which created an exclusive four-day Cape Town retreat, connecting an Indian entrepreneurs group to the heart and soul of the city…

THE BRIEF

Working in partnership with event agency Motwane Entertainment in Mumbai, the Event Concepts team were asked by the prestigious Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) to customise and destination-manage an exciting team building and networking programme – one that would immerse 120 Indian guests in the very best of destination Cape Town.

With a focus on team activities during the day and evening group events that tapped into Cape Town’s world-famous gourmet scene, the exciting four days unfolded in creating a once-in-a-lifetime South African experience.

THE SOLUTION

The arrival evening started with an exclusive welcome event at the ultra-chic, iconic Zeitz MOCAA Museum of Contemporary African Art. With a sixth-floor location and 360-degree view of Table Mountain, the city and the ocean – it was the perfect stylish beginning to the four days. The 120 guests were transferred from their hotel in a fleet of vintage cars, enjoyed a personalised menu and wine pairing with a top chef and a private opera performance – all in cocktail-chic lounges and to the most spectacular views Cape Town has to offer.

The following day started with the group split into a number of teams and competing in an Amazing Race activity through the city. With a focus on telling the story of Cape Town’s origin, history and multicultural diversity, the fast-paced race and its’ clues were designed to engage, connect and interact with locals, personalities and significant places. Highlights of the morning included identifying local Cape Malay delicacies and spices in the colourful Muslim quarter and playing drums and other instruments with the local buskers and entertainers.

The action finished with a stand-up paddle race through the canals of the V&A Waterfront complex, before the teams all met up for late lunch and a chance to share stories of the morning’s inspiring and uplifting experience.

Table Mountain with a twist started the evening’s entertainment with a surprise private champagne reception Event Concepts style, awaiting atop one of the wonders of the world. Sundowners whilst watching the sun drop into the ocean was a personal highlight for many of the EO Entrepreneurs and a real topic of conversation over a private rooftop dinner later that evening.

A Cape Winelands experience with a difference was the focus for the next day, with nature, scenery and adventure activities on the agenda. 40 kms from the city, imposing Paarl Rock – the second largest granite outcrop in the world – played host for a morning of hiking, biking, exploring and abseiling against a backdrop of stunning scenery and spectacular views over the winelands. Refreshment stations and relaxing areas were designed and set up in the numerous caves dotted among the rock formations and the whole group had a ball.

Then it was time for an exclusive grape and gourmet lunch winelands style and the guest’s self-drove a fleet of retro cars through hills and valleys to lunch at award-winning Tokara Wine Estate. Personal wine tours and tastings with the Tokara winemaker and casual bowl food served on the deck, set the scene for an afternoon of group reflection and networking.

Later that evening back in Cape Town and despite a few tired limbs, the group danced the night away at a white party and private dinner designed for them at Bilboa restaurant on the trendy Camps Bay strip, overlooking the beach and the ocean.

The theme for the final day was ocean-based experiences starting with scenic private drives on Harley Davidsons and Jeeps along the scenic coast road from the city to Hout Bay harbour. Here power-boating, kayaking and seal snorkelling activities awaited and for those who preferred to stay on dry land, e-bike tours and Harley rides over the spectacular Chapmans Peak cliff top drive provided memorable photo stops.

The final evening celebration was hosted at the luxurious private estate Villa Maison Noir situated high above Hout Bay on the slopes of Table Mountain – extending the invitation to the local Cape Town chapter of the Entrepreneurs Organisation at an informal networking event.

The final highlight event was all about funky Neon colours and stylish lounging, gourmet food and fabulous entertainment – to round off 4 fabulous days of seeing Cape Town from every angle and in style.
