Experience This… Taj Mahal at night

That the Taj Mahal is one of the most romantic monuments in the world is a claim that is rarely up for dispute. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in honour of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, this striking white marble mausoleum is visited by close to seven million tourists each year, eager to take a moment – and of course a selfie – at the monument many consider to be a tribute to eternal love.

The annual increase in visitors has however, led the overcrowding, so in an innovative solution to the problem, visitors will now be able to view the Taj Mahal in all its splendour after dark. 

The attraction, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1983, will offer night viewings on five evenings in a month, apart from Ramadan.

Prior to this, visitors only had the opportunity to visit from sunrise to sunset but the new move will enable admirers of Shah Jahan’s monument to the power of true love to see it awash with moonlight shimmering against the white marble.
