Three of the best Christmas markets in Europe

With Christmas now just six weeks away, its time to get stuck in to the gluhwein and seek out the best festive markets in Europe.

If you’re hedging your bets on a white Christmas, head out to Krakow, Poland and Rynek Glowny, the city’s main square, where a snowy market awaits, complete with hand-painted Christmas baubles, spiced nuts and traditional boiled sweets are among the favoured items to purchase.

Check out the 16 rooms inside the Bonerowski Palace, an opulent retreat with a reasonable rate.

Copenhagen’s gorgeous Tivoli Gardens, with its enchanting fairground rides, somehow gets even more magical at the end of the year, three different light shows in the park, a traditional Pixie Band playing festive songs and numerous stalls to stock up on Christmas presents and goodies.

Stay at the newly opened super sleek Scandic Kodbyen on the edge of the Danish Meatpacking District.

But if your diary won’t afford you a trip overseas, head on down to picturesque Hampshire from 19th December and take in the vibrant Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market.

Each year a whopping 400,000 visitors visit the market, which sprawls out around the stunning cathedral and features Christmas gifts, handmade decorations and festive foods plus a British Crafts Village and over 100 chalets surrounding the open-air ice rink.
