What’s hot in Barcelona

With all eyes on Barcelona this week as #eventprofs descend on the city for the annual global MICE gathering that is IBTM World, it’s the perfect time to check out the hot new developments in the cosmopolitan Catalan capital…

The hottest new arrival on the scene is the latest opening from Ian Schrager’s super sleek EDITION brand. The Barcelona EDITION is located in El Born, the city’s creative hub in the centre of the famed Ciutat Vella district, and within walking distance of the city’s most beloved landmarks including the Picasso museum, Antoni Gaudí’s Palau Güell, and the famed Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar.

With 100 rooms and suites, three restaurants, two bars, and a roof terrace with plunge pool, the hotel offers a dynamic social hub where guests and visitors can work, relax, socialise and dine.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a spectacular double-height buzzing lobby space dominated by a striking, sapphire blue Eric Schmitt chandelier and a selection of timeless furniture pieces originally designed by Catalan masters, Salvador Dalí and Antoni Gaudí.

Another new arrival in 2018, Almanac Barcelona opened its doors in February, offering 91 chic rooms and suites located just steps from Passeig de Gràcia. It’s the first in a collection offered by Almanac Hotels, with luxury properties in Vienna, Budapest, and Prague scheduled to open over the next few years.

On the top floor, Azimuth is the hotel’s rooftop bar and terrace with stunning views, while six meeting and event venues can be rented for exclusive events for ten to 100 guests.

Looking ahead, the hip Nobu Hotels brand is set to make its debut in Barcelona in early 2019. Capturing the Catalan essence, this vibrant and lively boutique hotel will be set in a prime central location.

Nobu Hotel Barcelona will offer 250 sleek rooms and suites, an elegant spa, thoughtfully tailored meeting and event spaces, and a world-class Nobu Restaurant that offers panoramic views of its iconic locale from the majestic heights of the 23rd floor.

US boutique brand Kimpton is also Barcelona bound next year. Located in the city’s Gothic Quarter, Kimpton Barcelona will feature 156 rooms, as well as an all-day dining restaurant and a rooftop swimming pool with unparalleled views of the city.

The neighbourhood, full of trendy boutiques and restaurants, provides the perfect base to explore all the city has to offer.
